Aurora mayoral candidate Jude Sandvall launched a YouTube video Oct. 21 showing
his opposition to the Gaylord hotel project.
The city agreed to give Gaylord Entertainment up to $300 million worth of tax incentives
to build the $800 million Western-themed hotel in Aurora near the Denver International
Airport.
Sandvall, a Realtor and mortgage broker, said the project “doesn’t respect (residents’)
hard-earned tax dollars”.
In the video he draws a distinction between himself, Aurora City Councilman Ryan
Frazier and former Aurora City Councilman Steve Hogan, both of whom are also mayoral
candidates.
“Both of these men have been a part of Aurora’s spendthrift government culture for
years - Hogan for 24 years and Frazier for 8 years,” Sandvall said in an email.
“Their support for Gaylord displays the mindset of both men, showing little concern
for a city in the middle of an economic drought. I am a new face running for mayor
who is an entrepreneur who understands that a successful manager must maintain fiscal
discipline and respect for the taxpayer’s money.”
